You may remember Katelyn Epperly as the young girl who charmed audiences on the juggernaut TV show “American Idol” in 2010 by wailing her way into the Top 8 female finalists with unique renditions of The Beatles “Oh Darling”, Carole King’s “I Feel the Earth Move” and a haunting rendition of Coldplay’s “The Scientist.”

Even though Katelyn’s voice and curly hair is recognized by many from her recent American Idol fame, her love for music runs deep. Raised in Des Moines, Iowa, her mother introduced her to the world of musical theatre and performing very early in life. Singing at the age of 2, playing piano at the age of 9 and writing her own music at the age of 14, Katelyn’s passion for music was evident from the start. In high school, Katelyn started carving her own path and style which she best describes as “A blend of alternative pop with influences of jazz, folk and blues”.

Katelyn’s unique expression of music reflects far beyond her years. Katelyn shares, “I’d love for my fans to be moved by my music. So many people are producing club music. We are stuck in this dub step, electronica/dance era. This music is great when you’re out to have a good time but sometimes you need music that allows you to reflect on your life, sometimes relax and numb your brain if need be. That’s the kind of artist I strive to be. I write all of my songs. I’ve felt the pain in the lyrics, I’ve composed the accompaniment; the background music to my own movie…my blood sweat and tears are in these songs.”

Katelyn has currently released her EP titled “From the Basement”, featuring 4 songs: “Heart Strings”, “Puppeteer”, “Lady” and a bonus track of King of Leon’s “Use Somebody.” Her anticipated full length album will be released on Valentines Day, February 14, 2012.
